55HH - Planning Permission Granted

Beyond Property Group is delighted to confirm that planning permission has been granted for the comprehensive redevelopment of 55 Holloway Head, Birmingham, following unanimous approval by the Birmingham City Council’s Planning Committee.

The site, formerly known as Lee Bank Business Centre, was originally constructed in the late 1950s as a multi-storey industrial “flatted factory”.

Holloway Head has undergone steady change in recent years, with former employment sites giving way to residential development as the city centre expands southwards. This scheme responds positively to that context — in scale, layout and use — and that it sits comfortably alongside neighbouring developments.

The approval will allow the site to be repurposed into a new mixed-use neighbourhood combining homes, street-level activity and improved public realm.

The development will introduce 224 new dwelling that includes apartments within the existing building and a series of new townhouses along Chapman’s Passage. Ground-floor commercial space will be provided to animate the street and support everyday city-centre uses.

Ground-floor commercial units will be incorporated to support active street frontages and reinforce the mixed-use character of the area.

The site benefits from excellent public transport connections and proximity to employment, retail and cultural destinations. The location is well suited to higher-density housing and that the development will support city-centre living without placing undue pressure on local infrastructure.

With planning permission now in place, the project moves from concept to delivery. The approval enables a vacant building to be reintegrated into the city, providing new homes, active streets and a more liveable urban environment.

Further updates will follow as the scheme progresses.
